To practise is to correct our faults

For countless lifetimes I have been sunk in prison
Because of the fame and gain of the ordinary world
Greed and anger burning through lives of anguish
Creating bad karma, heaped-up sorrows and resentments...
Through immeasurable lifetimes we have committed countless faults and committed countless evil deeds, giving rise to innumerable heaped-up sorrows and resentments, wrongdoing piled up filling all of space... This becomes a karmic force, like a flood that sweeps beings into the round of birth and death. But when all is said, we cannot remain forever in the condition of an ordinary, agitated worldling, drifting and sinking in the cycle of rebirth. To change this, we must kindle a thirst for practice and liberation, and cleanse and transform our inner self from bad to good. And we repeat this point: to practise is to correct our faults, so how do we see the wrong, the bad in our mind, in order to practise, in order to correct it?
We have faults and moral shortcomings that need to be straightened out and corrected. But what matters is whether we can see them, because if we cannot, we may still go to the temple every day and yet not practise at all, since we have corrected nothing.
