Foreword, introduction, definition and goal of meditation

Meditation is a way of bringing the mind to rest in one place, so that it becomes still and clear and is no longer pulled around by thoughts and feelings. The ultimate goal of a practitioner is liberation, the attainment of Nirvana.

The guide has four parts:

  1. The basic sequence for people with plenty of time.
  2. A short way to meditate for people with little time.
  3. Meditation combined with reciting the Buddha's name.
  4. Concise instructions for meditation practice.

Reading order

The articles in this group follow part one: the foundations, settling the body, regulating the breath, settling the mind, the results, and then coming out of meditation. The last two articles cover meditation for people short on time and meditation combined with reciting the Buddha's name.
